Quarterlife Crisis - Why does it happen?

Clayton J.C Tan | July 28, 2010

While the Generation-X talks much about mid-life crisis, Generation-Y seems to face a similiar phenomenon in the form of quarterlife crisis.  Gen-Y seems to want everything faster and therefore crisis happens sooner too, isn’t that true?  So what’s the difference between the two?
Here are the definition from Wikipedia:

Midlife crisis is a term coined in 1965 [...]

To Test or Not To Test? (Malaysian Examination)

Clayton J.C Tan | July 6, 2010

Malaysia has long been known to have among the most tuition centers (I guess in the world) and tuition has been a lucrative business (although teachers don’t seem to be a very respected profession here).  These tuition center prospers for the fact that there are at least 3 key examinations that every student in Malaysia [...]

A friend introduced to me this video created by Michael Wesch in collaboration with 200 students at Kansas State University.  It is a short video summarizing some of the most important characteristics of students today - how they learn, what they need to learn, their goals, hopes, dreams, what their lives will be like, and [...]

Security or Safety - The psychological impact of designations

Clayton J.C Tan | May 5, 2010

Security officer or safety officer - what are the differences between the two?  What exactly do they do?  In some instance, security as well as safety matters are taken care off by the same people or groups of people.  So does it make a difference what we call them?  I believe it does.
Having attended many [...]

Extreme Controls only Breed Rebels

Clayton J.C Tan | May 3, 2010

I read with disbelief the reports and suggestions in TheStar recently especially an article today titled “Student laud the move to make teenagers get home at prescribed hour“.  While I agree that it is generally unhealthy to be staying out late nights regularly, it’s hard to believe anyone would suggest a nationwide curfew.
First of all, [...]

Entrepreneurship not the only path to success

Clayton J.C Tan | April 19, 2010

Since young, I always wanted to become an entrepreneur.  Maybe it was an influence by my dad who runs his own telecommunications business and very much enjoying it.  To a large extend, it could also be influences of success stories in the Dotcom era (or rather since the technology era) - Bill Gates, Michael Dell, [...]

Clayton J.C Tan | April 12, 2010

I’ve previously promised to blog more about Boardgames that I play and the learning outcome from those boardgames.  Instead of a boardgame, last weekend I was introduced to a new cardgame by Ming Kim - Bang! (That’s the name of the game).
As the name may suggest (and also the picture on the box), it’s a [...]

Clayton J.C Tan | April 12, 2010

Have you ever asked yourself that question?  What’s your brand identity?  How do people recognize you?  How does people in the industry relate to you?  What do they talk about you?  This is exactly the point I’m getting at - What’s the brand that represents YOU?
While many may not realize, from the day we begin [...]

7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Clayton J.C Tan | March 18, 2010

I’ve finally completed facilitating my first 3-day session of the “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” program for my organization.  I thought it was about time I write something about this program (one of which I think is among the most essential program for anyone - fundamental yet paradigm changing and inspiring).
7 Habits of Highly [...]

Stop running away … Let’s make it happen!

Clayton J.C Tan | March 1, 2010

Last Saturday was the much awaited Musical Charity Concert organized jointly by 13 Leo Clubs in Selangor.  It was a very good musical show (should I call it romance or comedy?) put together by collective effort of schools, colleges and university students.  While amateur in acting and stage performance, the show was indeed entertaining and [...]
